About Korea

Transportation

Public transportation is quick, accessible, safe and inexpensive. The subway is the most convenient, usually costing the equivalent of about 75 cents a ticket.  The subway should be fairly usable to foreigners without much instruction - the bus system is another story. By asking co-workers you will be able to figure out the important bus routes that are in your area. Buses within the city cost about the same as the subway.

Taxis that go just about anywhere are abundant and very cheap compared to North American fares.  For example, a 20 minute cab ride may cost $15 CAD versus 5500 KRW or $6 CAD.When travelling a long distance in a taxi (e.g. to a nearby town or city), it's common to negotiate a flat fee instead of having the meter run.

It is also possible for an ex-pat with a valid driver's license in their home country to rent or even buy cars and motorcycles, although most just take public transportation.
